Winter's Fragile Tendrils

Indianapolis had a blizzard last week. As a result a huge drift of snow accumulated on a friend's porch. It was about 3 1/2 feet high, when it was all said and done. As the snow began to melt from the roof, a huge formation of icicles grew down to meet the huge drift of snow, which then began to encase the surface of the drift in ice (shown in the first picture below).

The middle picture below is a picture of several of the icicles and all the drops of water falling as the icicles melt.

In the third picture below, I've taken a shot from inside her living room, to show some degree of scale of how large the formation directly outside her sliding-glass door is. The snow drift is basically flush against the door until about 2 feet off of the floor, where it then slopes up to meet the icicles.

Winter Sunrise

Generally, I'm not a big fan of Sunrise/Sunset pictures. I think they're overdone. But this struck me as a particularly pleasant sunrise, so I chose to capture that fraction of a second to share with the world.

Found Object

I walked into my apartment building tonight and this is what I saw. I didn't arrange this or even move it before taking this picture. This is exactly how things were when I found them. Certainly a strange combination of things to find sitting in the hallway of my apartment.

The fountain in this lake has been left on, presumably to keep it from freezing up, which has resulted in a huge mound of ice that has grown on the surface of the frozen lake.
